Your Answer to ‘Tell Me About Yourself’ at Job Interviews
June 11th, 2008This is the most democratic way for engaging directors to begin most one-on-one interviews; get this right and the balance of the interview will fall into place. Til now so a lot of citizenry only do not get it right and possibly misplace extinct because of that.
After the loose confabulation about the weather and travel and so on, most interviewers will start off the formal part of the interview with something like this:
“Say me about yourself”
The lyric may alter of course of instruction but the postulation is to commence talk and get the interview under way. It is at this point that PANIC sets in. What do they want to find out? Where do I start? How recollective have you acquired?
Your answer to this truly is rather simple when you believe about it this way: The ground you are sitting down in this room with this interviewer is to convert them that you are the person they need to engage. Hence what they want to get wind from you are reasons and facts to win over them that you ARE the right person to engage.
This is a job interview! They do NOT want to learn irrelevant material about where you go to keep an eye on football game or your pets’ name calling or how your grandchild but mislaid her first tooth. (I’ve learnt all of these.)
What they DO want to get wind is a brief entry to exhibit how your career took you to THIS point of being here in THIS room with them. This agency you need to demo where and how you acquired got, the conclusions and changes you got along the way and that the function you are about to be questioned for is the right patterned advance for your career. But not only is it right for you but with your interest, exuberance and skills it will be right for the prospective employer as good. And do all this in about 3 minutes!
You have three minutes to keep their attending and say them how you occupied up your first job after college or university and derived specific skills as you got on. Append to this your promotional materials or namings to new job functions and how you after extinct chances to germinate in your Chosen career. Pass most of your three minutes on your most recent job and how the expertness you have gibed the inherent demands of the new job.
Then state most cautiously that when you saw this new job being advertised, you got very emotional as to the intimacy of the friction match and the calling evolution chance you pictured. And that is wherefore you are so proud of to be at this interview.
And that is how you make your answer to the “state me about yourself” command at job interviews.
